Product photography is perfect for informational photos or for eCommerce businesses. It works well for catalogues and where a clean look is required.
But many of my Sydney-based clients need to inject emotion and story into their photography. They want to show how their product is used, where it’s used and paint a picture of what life could be like if you use their product.
It’s the transformation that sells products.
I refer to this type of photography as lifestyle product photography. That is, a picture showing a product combined with a lifestyle aspect.
For this image shown, I was tasked with creating a series of images which show my client’s product being enjoyed.
The ultimate goal was for the images to be used in their advertising campaigns to drive traffic and conversions.
What I like about this photo is that it clearly shows the environment where my client’s product is used.
The image focuses on their product, the bottled water, but at the same time you’re drawn to the happy couple in the image. It paints a picture that shows you exactly how you could be enjoying the product.
Although this photo was a set-up (hired models, the food and table were set-up), it looks very natural.
Having people look natural in photos is in my opinion one of the things that sets apart professional photographers from amateurs.
It’s extremely important in any type of people photography, whether that be headshots, corporate portraits or lifestyle product photography.
